I been to some villages (less than 1000 population) in Maharashtra where the kids would come every morning to school and return dejected becos the teacher would nvr show up. And finally those schools turned into gambling dens!

Yes, sadly I've seen such villages too where the school teacher just doesn't show up (yet collects his salary). Children are forced to walk to nearby villages to attend school.

Jor village, I'm happy to say, is an exception in spite of being quite remote :)

I'm not sure about schools turning into gambling dens, although I wouldn't be surprised if that happens...
